UCLA Gymnast Changes ‘Iconic’ Michael Jackson Routine to Women Powerhouses

Katelyn Ohashi is one of the most entertaining gymnast of all time. Katelyn Ohashi, 21, has collected many accolades. She was the 2011 junior national champion, the winner of the 2013 American Cup and a six-time All-American gymnast.

The UCLA student went viral this year for her stunning floor routine which earned her a clean 9.950.

The gymnastics world has been under a microscope ever since the USA Gymnastics sex abuse scandal. Ohashi’s floor routine, comprised of mostly MJ hits has been questioned by many especially after the release of the HBO documentary \”Leaving Neverland.\” The documentary featured twin accounts alleging Jackson engaged in sexual predation. Ohashi decided to remove the music from her floor routine. She took to her personal blog to explain why she is no longer using any of Jackson’s music.

In her blog, Ohashi states, “On a team where my own floor coach and some of my teammates are victims of sexual abuse, I hear; I listen; I feel. I wanted to stand beside them.” Thus, her routine changed to a fun and iconic women empowering routine. She wanted to include women who sparked joy for her such as Tina Turner and Beyoncé. Check out how talented and happy this routine made her teammates.

Many fans also showed support for the changed routine. She mentioned in her blog that people would come to the gymnastics meets just to see her Michael Jackson routine, but I am sure they will do the same for this routine.
