The last time we heard from Demi, she gave us the party anthem of summer 2018 and permission (once again) to ignore the haters. But then, our hearts stopped when news sources and social media posts alerted us to her overdose in July. In March, she tweeted her encouragement to any AA/NA participants who needed help to ask for it, regardless of their position.

“If you’ve relapsed and are afraid to get help again, just know it’s possible to take that step towards recovery. If you’re alive today, you can make it back. You’re worth it.”

Now, according to her InstaStory post on Tuesday, she’s back in the studio with a new manager and fresh inspiration. Partnered up with Justin Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, Lovato has a new message for the haters. “You know what’s great about making an album? You get to say anything you want, be as open and honest as possible and finally tell your side of the story regardless of who might not like it.”

A follow-up post on her Instagram page shows Lovato in the studio with the caption “Making magic.”
