Taylor Swift Sold 1.3 Million Copies of “Folklore” in Just 24 Hours

TAYLOR SWIFT finally got her revenge on KANYE WEST . . . invading HIS stage, and proving that SHE’S the biggest thing in music right now.

Last Thursday, Taylor shocked everyone announcing that she was surprise-releasing an album called “Folklore” THAT NIGHT.

According to “Variety“, it sold more than 1.3 million copies worldwide in just 24 hours.  It broke the global record for first-day album streams on Spotify by a female artist with 80.6 million streams, and it also became the “most-streamed pop album on Apple Music in 24 hours” with 35.47 million streams.

The official first-week U.S. sales numbers will not be available until a week from now, but it’s clearly on track for the biggest debut of 2020.

It needs to surpass JUICE WRLD’S posthumous album “Legends Never Die”, which sold 517,800 copies in its first week.  That was the first album to move more than 500,000 copies in its first week this year.

(To be clear, the 1.3 million is global sales, the Billboard 200 is U.S. sales.)

Remember how Kanye also said HE’D put out his next album on Friday?  Well, it never showed up.  On Saturday, he unveiled the cover art, but he never explained the delay.

It’s possible that he pulled it back to avoid Taylor, not wanting his to get trounced.  But who knows, Kanye has been acting erratic recently, so maybe it wouldn’t have come out anyway.

Speaking of Taylor, some people have pointed out that “Folklore” has been categorized as an ALTERNATIVE album . . . not pop or country.

And, we weren’t the only ones who didn’t know Taylor’s album was coming out . . . she even kept her label in the dark.

Smash Mouth apparently didn’t dig “Folklore”.  On Friday morning, the band Tweeted, quote, “borelore.”

OR . . . maybe they just wanted to have their timeline packed with furious Tweets from Taylor’s fan-base.  Because, that’s exactly what’s been happening.  Many of them have been dismissing Smash Mouth as . . . “the Shrek band.”
