Being single isn’t as bad as everyone tries to make it out to be.
You have your whole life to be married and in a relationship. People get so eager to settle down, find “the one”, and start a long life creating a family. That’s all the American Dream, but why rush it?
It’s all a beautiful thing, but people get so caught up in the mess of it all that they forget being young, single, and twenty is also the American Dream.
Here are 9 reasons why you need to be single in your twenties…
1. You’ll find out who your friends are.
Your real friends will check up to see how you are, what you are doing, and care to hang out with you. You’ll figure out if they just use you when they need you, or if you actually have a quality friend on your hands.
2. You’ll find out who you are.
There’s a lot of change in your twenties. You’ll figure out what you like, what you don’t like, what makes you strong, how you like to spend your time, and what kind of person you really want to be. It’s hard to figure things like that about yourself when you’re tied down to someone.
3. You get to do all the things you’ve always wanted to do.
Spend hours at the book store, go out every night, climb the water tower, or whatever it is that you like/want to do, just go do it. No one is holding you back from doing anything.
4. You don’t have any pressures.
A lot of the time there is pressure with dating, not the bad kind though. There’s just pressure to create time to hang out with your significant other, go to their family events, and say things just to make them happy. In the American Dream of being single, you aren’t creating time for anyone but yourself. Enjoy that.
5. You spend more time with your family.
6. You learn how to hold your own.
It’s amazing what we forget how to do ourselves after being in a relationship for so long. After a bad day you want to confide in someone and be told “it’s going to be okay” right? Not that it’s wrong to want that, but being single lets you figure that stuff out on your own. Learn how to deal with your own emotions, fix a feud, or be a better person. It will help you grow so much further.
7. You can eat as much dessert as you want.
8. You can spend all day in your bed without feeling bad about it.
9. You can start taking care of yourself.
Being single only lasts so long. Before you know it, you’ll be married, have kids, and retiring. Cherish this time in your twenties to actually take care of yourself. It’s the most selfish you can be during your lifetime. Take care of yourself, worry about yourself, and do what you want to do. How are you going to be old and wise if you aren’t ever young and crazy? Live the real American Dream.
